  • Bob Corn singing The Garden's Song

    the mayor - Sep 11, 2011

Tizio calls the song "Just the Garden" so the song-writing police don't catch up to him.

God Bless Bob Corn & his sweet voice. Does anyone know what he's saying at the beginning??

Here he is again in this beautiful film:

  • ART of FLYing at MUSICA NELLE VALLI 2010

    - May 31, 2011

  • BOOK NOTES: author SUMMER WOOD

    - Feb 20, 2011

New Mexico novelist Summer Wood talks about Art of Flying song: DRIFT DRIFT in  LARGEHEARTED BOY's Book Notes Series:

    "Drift Drift," Art of Flying

This delicate, haunting song melds two voices in a kind of conversation about love and distance. I don't completely understand it, and I don't completely understand Willow, the other woman Len loves – but I get why Len would love her, and why distance is the magic ingredient in their relationship. And I get the pain of that. "I am going to change my way of knowing," David Costanza sings, and you almost believe him. Almost. I love this band, and this song.

READ the rest of her LIST here.

Wrecker is set in Humboldt County, up in the wilds of northern California; but it's more about blackberries than about that other iconic Humboldt crop, and more about love's hefty yield than about the measure of blackberries.

  • ART of FLYing & ALL for NOW LIVE at the VALDEZ BAR!

    the mayor - Feb 7, 2011

Art of Flying will leave the BARN & return to the cold, cruel, outside world for a much-anticipated show with ALL for NOW (featuring DEERhoof guitarist John Dieterich & extreme PIANIST Thollem McDonas). Thollem has collaborated with long-time Art of Flying friend, Ben Wright. All for Now will be accompanying the FILMS of Martha Colburn. The show is sliding-scale $7-$10, is at the VALDEZ BAR in Taos, NM, starts at 7pm, & is sponsored by the SECO PEARL

    About All for NOW:

"How fitting that these two musicians should come
together for their first collaboration at the San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art! McDonas on
piano and voice, and Dieterich (from Deerhoof) on
guitar here present lovely, spare, sometimes jarring,
sometimes gentle compositions that are thoroughly
modernistic works of art in their own right. You'll feel
like a connoisseur as you listen to these artists and
enjoy the cover work of visual artist Martha Colburn."

  • FREE MUSIC IMPULSE - a double disc compilation of 33 artists to keep Hybrida alive

    - Feb 7, 2011

HYBRIDA compilation is OUT NOW! Featuring songs from Art of Flying & Larry Yes.

Free Music Impulse is a self production of Hybrida, cultural association of Tarcento (UD - Italy). Free Music Impulse is the result of all the bands that have played at Hybrida donating a song to us to help us to pay the legal costs. Free Music Impulse is the incomplete story of these eight years. Let yourself be swept along by the flow of analogical, electronic, acoustic and digital sound. What emerges is our harvest, a unstable dimension that is the fruit of exchange, contacts and connections that define this hybrid creature.

You can order it at HYBRIDA. The cost is 15 euro plus shipping charges. (Italy: 2,50 euro - Europe: 3,50 euro - U.S.A: 4,50 euro).

More NEWS from the ITALIAN FRONT!

Tizio's (bob corn) new CD: THE WATERMELON DREAM is now AVAILABLE from FOOLTRIBE. This short & sweet (only 7 songs) disc features Tizio's take on Art of Flying's: THE GARDEN's SONG. Check it out & tell Bob Corn that discobolus sent you!

Hand-made covers, each one with typed-out liner-notes. Features all of our favorite Portland bands: Rollerball, Moodring, Dramady, Larry Yes. the Jed, Lickity, Miss Massive Snowflake & also includes Denver's DangHead. Eventually this will be at BandCamp, until then--you have to buy one to get a listen. More Pictures, Info & to BUY a copy go HERE.

  • ART of FLYING goes to ITALY.

    - Oct 19, 2010

Alright-the tour blog--as it is--is up & telling tales with lots of pictures & videos HERE. Unfortunately (who knows?) the story runs backwards like some avant-garde movie; take a peek. May-June Art of Flying met up (for the first time) with Tizio (Bob Corn) Sgarbi & his beautiful touring world. 14 shows up & down the wonder-filled country.

  • ART of FLYING GOES DIGITAL.

    the mayor - Oct 19, 2010

The entire ART of FLYing catalog is NOW available HERE at BANDCAMP. This includes an uploaded copy of their 10"-straight off of my record-player. Rock-On. This is the place to purchase digital down-loads in whatever format you want: FLAC, MP3 & some others; you probably know more about this than I do. You can pay for each down-load with a sliding-scale starting at $5 & on up from there. This has been working great so far--better than Itunes & they take very little money from us...so, give it a try if you're interested; you should also get pictures with the songs. If you buy the disc through bandcamp, you can have a digital down-load free as well.  IF you already have Art of Flying down-loads & want to donate towards them there is a button at the bottom of this post. Thanks for whatever amount you decide. Buying a CD is yet another way to contribute towards this scene. Art of Flying is hard at work on a NEW CD & your purchases keep the tape rolling, the earl-gray tea flowing, the mixing-board mixing & the lights lighting.

  • HELP HYBRIDA!!

    - Oct 16, 2010

HYBRIDA is a FAVORITE stop for bands touring Italy. When Art of Flying & Larry Yes were touring in 2005 Bruno-our trusted tour-guide said one morning: "Don't eat today guys--we're going to be at Hybrida & the food they make will BLOW your minds!" & not just the food--the beautiful cave-like bar, the crazy-candle-burnings all around-& even in the land where the food regularly 'blows our minds' it is the PEOPLE that I really remember. When Francesco & Giullia wrote looking for songs for a benefit compilation, we were glad to oblige.. Look for it to arrive in November. (That's Larry, above, hanging out at HYBRIDA). More info at:www.hybridaspace.org & below:

Hybrida has felt from the start that it was its responsibility to promote information and knowledge, exchange and connections. It has invested energies and money in a constant way, hoping to fill the institutional and cultural gap in an often limited and self-referential context.

During seven years of intense activity Hybrida has developed a wide net of relationships and given a good contribution to cultural emancipation through concerts, workshops, conferences, festivals and by becoming one of the international reference organizations in this area.

In the summer 2007 due to legal action, the only possible and sensible thing was a further mutation for Hybrida to be free from the unmanageable structural bonds which the local government administration forced on our organization and leaving the Centro “L. Ceschia” empty.

This June the legal action was closed: we won two cases. The first about alleged damages and the second about a public contribution. The third case, the most important, was about the commons: the judge said we were right about some things but in spite of being technically correct there was no solution to this dispute. The administration of Tarcento wanted 25.000 euro but they didn't have any documentation to claim this and so the judge decided that we have to pay the half costs (less the rent of the winter months of the bar) plus the cost of the technical mastery (5.388,07 euro) and the legal costs (7.857,32 euro). The total is 25.278,61 euro.

We have to pay immediately and this seriously harms the life of the association. On the 25th September there was a benefit in Mortegliano (near Udine) with the best local groups.

We will do also a benefit compilation to involve the far away bands that have played at Hybrida, so we are here to ask if you want to help us with one of your tracks.

  • Larry Yes + Bob Corn = LOVE

    - Oct 9, 2010

North Pole Records has a great split 7" with Larry Yes & Bob Corn.

Love Calls is an international collaboration of artists and labels. A 7” vinyl memento released between North Pole Records (American) and Fooltribe Dischi (Italian). This sweet collaboration of native Oregonian music / love channeler, Larry Yes, and Italian farmer / wanderer, Tiziano Sgarbi, aka Bob Corn has each artist performing an original song and then covering a song by the other.
Bob Corn sings in poignant accented english with an acoustic guitar. Songs of longing, memory, and love. His grammar may be incorrect but his observations are unique descriptions of transatlantic truths. Larry Yes continues the strumming as well as bringing swooning horns and suitcase drums along for some moments of stoned wandering.
Larry Yes has released 5 solo cds over the past 10 years and recorded / toured Europe and America solo and in Art of Flying, Six Foot Sloth, and The Pink Widower. Bob Corn has two cds on Fooltribe and is probably playing somewhere in the world as you read this.
    -500 copies.

  • Bob Corn does Art of Flying

    - Oct 8, 2010

Bob Corn, Italian fricchettoni fighi artisto-magnifico--writes to say he has just recorded a version of Art of Flying's 'garden of earthly delights' for his new record & hopes to have it ready by November. We still haven't heard the record....SO, for  now--check out Bob Corn singing "Reds Between Blacks."

& while we're talking about COVERs--why not check out the Art of Flying 'tribute' album ATTEMPT on NILLACAT records in Portland, OR. These are all hand-made covers & features Larry Yes singing HIS version of 'garden of earthly delights' along with performances by Rollerball, Moodring, the Jed, Dramady, DangHead & Lickity. You can hear Lickity's rad take on "fuck you america..." in the little listening box at the top of the nillacat myspace page. As for getting a copy of the record, good luck!! I am trying to get a few copies myself--if I score I'll put them in the merch section here. Ciao.
